So you have the holidays ahead, parties to plan, cards to get out, presents to shop for, the last thing on your mind is that kitchen remodel you want to do next Spring or Summer, right? Actually, now is the time to get the ball rolling.  The process usually takes longer than most people realize and you don’t want to rush something that you will enjoy for many holidays to come.

Remodeling in 2018? Start planning now! 1

Depending on the size of your project you have to figure that it will take 3-6 months to choose your designer and construction team, finalize a detailed design and make material selections, then 2-3 months to get permits and procure all materials and another 1-2 months to install everything and complete your punch list.  You may only be without a kitchen for 2-4 weeks but the process around it takes much longer, usually 6-9 months total!

To Do List this Fall:

Gather ideas – use Houzz, Pinterest, or magazine clippings to help give direction to your architect, contractor or designer.  Look for interesting details that resonate with you that will give your project that wow factor.

Hire a good designer/contractor – Choose your partner carefully, they will be part of your life for many months.  Have them come to your house to measure and start the design process.

Start shopping for appliances now –  Your kitchen will be designed around the appliances and cabinetry can not be ordered until you have made your final appliance selections.
